Friday Favorites 116
Oh boy! June has hit me like a freight train, and left me wondering what happened to the beginning of my summer? I have no idea where the month has gone, but instead of this WEEK'S favorites...let's just say it's this MONTH'S favorites! I have been working on this post for two weeks now, so it spans a longer period than usual. So here are the five things putting a smile on my face this month:
Graduation!!
Our oldest graduated from college - so we had lots of reasons to jump for joy! It truly does seem like just yesterday that we were nervous first time parents, bringing her home from the hospital in a car seat that we barely knew how to use! How time flies! We are so proud of the smart and independent woman she has become!
Breakfast Sandwich Maker
Okay, I know this picture does not do the yummy goodness of this breakfast sandwich justice, but if you don't already own the Breakfast Sandwich Maker, you are missing out! This sandwich is so easy to make, it literally cooks the egg and toasts the bread on it's own, and it comes out so delicious! I make mine with egg whites, whole wheat muffins, and either Canadian bacon or turkey sausage. My kids prefer to add some cheese and use whole eggs... there are lots of options. It is hard to find an easier way to make your family a hot breakfast that they can carry out the door. It's definitely a winner! (You can find them here : A single sandwich maker or a double sandwich maker)
We offer our clients a cup of tea on their way out the door - and this tea has become everyone's favorite! It's really yummy and has lots of beneficial herbal supplements. The Tumeric and Devil's Claw are great for their anti-inflammatory properties, and it boasts lots of antioxidant properties from the green tea, blackberry leaf and ginseng. All good for helping your body recover from your workout. You can find the tea here.
Yummy Chicken and Veggie Protein Bowls
My family is still crazy about these protein bowls. The chicken seasoning is delicious and it's a fun way to keep everyone happy - you set out all the toppings and everyone makes their own! It's full of healthy ingredients and sometimes I substitute quinoa for the brown rice - it's a perfect weeknight dinner! You can find the recipe here.
Concerts in the Park
One of my favorite things about living outside of Chicago...beside everything (we are big fans of Chicago if you haven't noticed), are the free outdoor concerts they host all summer long. We take our cooler full of food, and head downtown to sit outside enjoying the beautiful skyline and the unique architecture of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The music is excellent and the lawn is loaded with people all enjoying the evening outdoors! It's a fun family activity and also makes for a perfect date night when we go alone! If music isn't your thing, they offer Tuesday night movies in the park as well as free fitness classes Saturday mornings. If you find yourself in the Chicago area, check out some of the free activities available at Grant Park and Millennium Park.
