Spicy Cucumber Celery Juice with Jalapeño
If you love spice - try our new juice recipe for Cucumber Celery Juice with Jalapeño. It’s so refreshing with a little kick!
I am a spicy loving gal! I add heat to just about everything I eat, as my poor family can attest, but I had never thought of making my green juices spicy - until my daughter suggested it! What a brilliant idea! We were already in love celery and cucumber juice, it’s so light and refreshing, and most importantly it is full of health benefits. Adding the jalapeño gave it just the amount of spice, and jalapeños have capsicum, which can boost your metabolism and has compounds that have anti-cancer properties, improve heart health, and believe it or not, help protect against stomach ulcers. That seems like it would do the opposite, but studies suggest the contrary.
If spicy isn’t for you, the ginger adds a little kick and it’s packed with health benefits too (if you are a ginger fan, check out Meg’s Ginger Lemon Water recipe).
We have become a big fan of juicing! Here is a great juicer for beginners - The Breville Juice Fountain Compact. You can read my review on it here.
This would even make a great healthy mixed drink by adding a little vodka to the juice… a spicy cumber celery cocktail! That sounds like it’s about as healthy as you can get for a mixed drink. :)
So here’s the recipe - remember to be extra careful when juicing the jalapeño!
Ingredients:
1 Bunch of Celery - about 8-10 stalks
1 Large Cucumer
1 Lemon
1 Inch Piece of Ginger
1-2 Jalapeños
Directions:
Place Celery, lemon and ginger in the juice and juice. When you juice the jalapeño it will release capsaicin into the air, which can burn your eyes and nose. To help alleviate some of this, while the juicer is turned off, place the jalapeño and the cucumber into the juicer and then turn it on and walk away from the juicer for a minute. The capsaicin from the jalapeño gets into the air and burns your eyes and lungs if you stand right next to the juicer. The juice from the cucumber will help cut down on the jalapeño’s burn though. Also, be very careful when you are cleaning the juicer, try not to get it on your hands and try not to breathe in the capsaicin.
For some, the spice from the ginger will be enough, so there is no need to add the jalapeños. You can always try it without if you would like to eliminate the extra spice.
